Baked Apples

Baking apples is such a healthy and delicious dessert. I like mine with a scoop of ice cream, which kind of ruins the healthy part, but it is just as good without it. Now that we are getting into fall and apple season I thought it would be the perfect time to share this recipe. It really is the fall version of the grilled peach.

Quick tip: There is a lot of debate on which apples are the best to bake with. I found this chart someone put together that I find very interesting. Hopefully it will be helpful for you.

Dietary Classifications: Gluten free, Vegetarian, Dairy free (do not serve with ice cream)

4 Apples (Rome, Granny Smith, Gala)
1 tsp Cinnamon
½ cup Brown Sugar
4 tsp butter
Maple Syrup (optional)
Ice cream (optional)

Preheat oven to 375.

Core the apples with either a corer or knife. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar and stuff into the apples. Place 1 tsp of butter on top of each apple. Place into an 8x8 baking dish and fill with about ¼ inch of water.

Bake the apples for about 30-40 min or until tender. You can sprinkle a little more cinnamon on top, drizzle with maple syrup or serve with ice cream. However you eat them, they will be delicious.
